SOLD — L639 Zenith Blue ’67 Beetle

IMG_1815

We have a fantastic L639 Zenith Blue ’67 Beetle for sale. This car has been well cared for and it shows. It’s too bad the Lane Russell garage is full, as I’d love to call this car my own. Jaime is a personal friend of 1967beetle.com.

This is a 1967 Beetle Classic, “One year only” for many items, or shall I say “First and Last year for many items. It was the first year Volkswagen would convert from 6 volts to 12 volts, it was the first year they installed the pop up locks on the doors, it was the first year they installed reverse lights, it was the first year they changed the front head lamps from the traditional dome like shape to the now flat like shape, it was the first year the chrome moldings were designed thinner, it was the first year they changed driver side mirror from round to pear like shape, the engine went from a 1300 cc to a 1500 cc. It was the last year you would see the chrome over rider bumpers, the first and last year they installed a 1500 engine, the last year you would see the reverse lights exposed separately, even the interior got a face lift by adding a new dash.

I bought my car in 2011, the color is Zenith Blue L639 It had the original engine in it when I first bought it, but It had already been rebuilt by someone else in 98 and they did not use any case savers so I could not use the same case when I rebuilt my engine. I just rebuilt it last summer and have been enjoying it ever since. I built it from the original stock 1500 to the now stock 1600 engine using many of the original parts that I could salvage and restore. It has 142,461 original miles on the vehicle but only 1429 on the newly rebuilt engine. There is no rust on the vehicle. I have the Original Instruction and Maintenance Manual that came with the vehicle along with the Maintenance Card. In it, are documented the stamp seals of when the car first arrived from Germany and was inspected at the dealership, the very first maintenance and oil change to the vehicle and including the last documented oil change stamp seal from Auburn Volkswagen after I purchased the vehicle. I have the vehicles Birth Certificate and all the receipts as well. I added five new tires 165R15 B.F. Goodrich 3/4 inch white wall steel belted radial tires from Coker Tire, new struts. I have many extra parts that will go with the sale of vehicle such as two extra sets of lobster claw seat belts, all the original hubcaps, tail lenses, beauty rings, trim rings, sapphire speakers still in the box and original jack. The previous owner said someone backed into the passenger side door and he had it replaced, but never repainted properly. It has a few dings here and there but nothing major. The title is clean and is currently under collector status.

I really don’t want to sell the car, but I also don’t have the time or the money to keep adding to the vehicle at this moment so, I would like to see the vehicle go to someone who can appreciate these cars! I am not interested in any trades, however, “I will consider all offers”, and please no tire kickers. Buyer will be responsible for shipping, however, I can help coordinate if necessary. The Mr.Bubblehead license plate frames will not be included, but I will replace them with a different frame.

Hello, I'm Eric. I started Air-Cooled Artifacts (previously, 1967beetle.com and Lane Russell). I drive a '67 Beetle daily and love to share vintage Volkswagen stories with the world.

  1. There’s a lot of value here for the asking price. I especially appreciate the radio, the German front fenders, and the original rear bumper. Nice. GLWS.

    1. Thanks Mike, no where as nice as your car and the others I’ve seen featured on Eric’s website not to mention Eric’s car, but it has a lot of potential for improvement. Thanks for looking and good to hear from you. And thanks to all the support I have received from you, Eric, Jay, Jodi, Tim and all the rest of you!

  2. You’re welcome. We’re all here for you. To Mike’s comment. The German fenders alone make this car a good deal. Mike drove almost 1,000 miles to purchase some from me. :)

  3. I love the history on this car. A beauty!

    1. Thank you so much Sam, I appreciate it.

  4. Original, history, documentation….for the asking price Mike is absolutely correct, a lot of value here!
What a beauty for the buyer looking for a stock 67′.

  5. It truly is a great car. I expect it to sell fast.

    1. Thanks Eric, I appreciate it.

  6. Nice! My favorite 67 color
