’67 Photo Shoot. NAS Alameda, CA

Well, Dad’s in town. He always loves to go over to NAS Alameda. One of the hangars has a group of guy’s that restore old fighter planes. If you’re lucky, they have the huge hangar door open while they are doing their work.

My Dad, being the adventurous guy he is always walks right in to talk about the restoration going on. I walked in, shook the guys hand and kindly joked about pulling my Beetle in. He laughed and said, “sure, but only if it’s a classic!” I doubt many people actually get in these old NAS hangars to shoot photos, let alone of classic cars!

I’d love to come back and plan out a longer shoot. NAS Alameda has a long history. If you’re wondering why my CA plates are missing, I’m still waiting for the DMV to process my YOM application. Arg, no comment.

    Too cool! I see VA 113 on the fuselage in the background. They were the “Stingers” aboard the USS Enterprise in Viet Nam at the same time your car was being built. Pretty good history coming together there.

    Good eye! Yeah, most of the guys in there working on the planes were Vietnam vets. My Dad is too and he really enjoyed talking to them.

      It’s ironic. Your car looks as good as new and the aircraft parts look like junk. Both from the same era.

      It would be much better if I had my black CA plates back. The DMV has sent the application back 3 times. I’m so sick of dealing with their lack of ability to do their job properly.

        DMV sucks. We were given a Honda 80 Elite scooter, they wanted $781 for back fees and wouldn’t waive any. They got nothing, instead of a little. No wonder they’re going broke!

    These photos are really great. 1967beetle.com is equally fantastic. This is by far my fav site. Have you thought about a forum like TheSamba? You could become even better.
