Featured ’67 Beetle — Jaime Muñana

Jaime Muñana’s L639 Zenith Blue ’67 Beetle is fantastic piece of vintage Volkswagen history. In his own words…

It was 1979 in So Cal and I was in my last year of high school. I was working part time in the Garden Shop at Kmart. I was saving for a car, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted or could afford. My Dad said to me, “how much money do you have saved up?” I told him, “about $1,200.00.” He said, “just give $1,000.00 and I will put up the difference.” He and his friend came home one day in the evening and there she was! My Dad has always owned VW’s and that had a major influence on me; the rest is history. Thank you for all your restoration guidance 1967beetle.com!

  1. Hello, Jaime…this is a great story! We had a Zenith Blue ’67 of our own in which our children grew up. You have done well to preserve this car. Your daughter will cherish the above photo and her memories of growing up in the car. Maybe she’ll do like our children did–help me when I did brake work–they pumped the brake pedal for me! jay

    • Thank you Jay! Wow it’s always nice to hear that someone else grew up in or around VW’s like I did! My daughter doesn’t want to be anywhere else but inside the car! She really get’s upset and refuses get out of the car almost all the time and when I’m working on the car, she is always around me! So having said that, I’m pretty sure she’s going to end up like your kids, helping me bleed the brakes, like I did with my dad when I was growing up! Thank’s Jay, and thank’s for continuing to pass along that wisdom of yours ! jaime
