SOLD — L19 Yukon Yellow ’67 Vert

FOR SALE — L19 Yukon Yellow ’67 Vert

A huge thanks to Mike Buettell for sending this information over.. This appears to be Jack Nicholson’s old L19 Yukon Yellow ’67 Vert from the movie Up In Smoke.

“This innocuous-looking Volkswagen Cabriolet belies its shabby appearance. Far from being a candidate for the scrap heap, it is in fact a movie star. Not of the iconic stature of Herbie the Love Bug, obviously, but its screen credits are just as genuine.

The car appears in the 1978 comedy “Up in Smoke,” starring Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong – Cheech and Chong. In that role it wore a Rolls-Royce radiator, inelegantly bolted to the front. The radiator has been lost, but the car is unmistakably the clapped-out VW that is mistreated in several scenes.

It has lots of dents and scratches, and the top is a mess, but the interior is essentially intact, though worn. It has the correct VW Sapphire V radio, Dunlop steel radial tires and the coveted California black plate UQE 765.”

Neva Salser

’67 Volkswagen Beetle — Neva Salser

The weather turned cool last evening. Just right for driving our favorite Beetle, a ’67 slightly custom Bug. I invited our daughter, Janeva Sulman, to accompany us to a Volkswagen meeting early this morning. She was excited to do so.

Janeva grew up in VWs from a very early age. She learned to drive them. She drove them to school, then to work after graduation from college. Today, she brought her big camera along for the ride and the subsequent meeting of some VW friends.

The Best Year

’67 Volkswagen Beetle — The Best Year

My father owned a UK 1967 1500 deluxe from new, the car was a special order schwarz L41 (black), the interior was Indian red basket weave. He also opted for US spec bumpers to avoid any undue knocks from the larger higher bumpers that were appearing on other cars of the time. This is his car with my mum and my grandma on holiday in devon around 1968.

At the time and there after, my father always said that it was known as the “best year beetle.” I put this down to bias for many years until I started hearing it from more and more sources.

So, let’s have a look at the features of this one year car and look into this statement to find some solid reasons for this accolade.
